 can be defined as domestic fowls, including chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks, raised for the production of meat or eggs and the word is also used for the flesh of these birds used as food.         Poultry" is a term used for any kind of domesticated bird, captive-raised for its utility, and traditionally the word has been used to refer to wildfowl (Galliformes) and waterfowl (Anseriformes) but not to cagebirds such as songbirds and parrots. " Poultry" can be defined as domestic fowls, including chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks, raised for the production of meat or eggs and the word is also used for the flesh of these birds used as food.                                                                                           लेअर्स  :                      ज्या कोंबडयांना कमी अन्न लागते आणि अधिक अंडी देतात  त्यांना लेयर म्हणून निवडतात.  पांढऱ्या लेग हॉर्न कोंबडीचि वार्षिक अंडी देण्याची क्षमता  200-250 इतकी असते आणि दररोज तिला 125 ग्रॅम पोषक अन्न लागते.

ब्रॉइलर्स   (Broilers)  :                                      मांसासाठी पाळलेल्या कोंबड्याना त्यांचे वजन वाढविन्यास विशेषकरून मास वाढविन्यास भरपूर प्रमाणात प्रथीने व जीवनसत्वे असलेले अन्न देण्यात येते. परदेशी जातीच्याआयलंड सारख्या कोंबड्याना भारतीय कुक्कुट पालनात बॉयलर मणुन वाढवितात.
